History of Program
The Holden Regional Program opened in September 1989. The program is located at the Holden Elementary School.
Statement of Purpose
The Program was developed to serve students of elementary age who have multiple disabilities, including mental retardation. Integration with non-disabled peers takes place during such activities as music, art, physical education, lunch, recess, and other activities when appropriate. Reverse mainstreaming also occurs when students come to the Regional classroom to read stories, or
play simple games. Since the majority of students are unable to communicate orally, there is a strong focus on alternative communication systems and stimulation. Mobility is also addressed for ambulatory students, as well as, therapeutic positioning for those in wheelchairs.
